1. The Merchant

Much of the atmosphere here was influenced by New York City with its view of the city’s grand landmarks meant to be reminiscent of the view of the Statue of Liberty from the Liverpool to New York cruise line. You can get to the bar fairly easily with a short walk to the northwest from James Street Station.

3. Maray

Maray is one of the more unique restaurants in town offering a wide variety of different flavours reminiscent of several styles of cuisine, all expertly prepared from scratch every day. You’ll find some flavours of a Middle East grill house set up right alongside some classic American comfort food with a hint of Skandi influence.

All the food here is based on the availability of ingredients. Every dish was designed with unrelenting freshness in mind, so it’s largely dependent on what’s able to be sourced locally. You can try it for yourself right on Albert Dock on the east side of the Mersey.

4. Madre



Madre offers absolutely delicious Mexican fare alongside the River Mersey complete with craft beers and natural wines to enjoy in their outdoor courtyard. The food here is inspired by the traditional cuisine of Mexico City, offering a variety of tacos for the lunch menu and dishes like pig’s head chicharron and hogget barbacoa on the evening menu.

The Art School is an iconic fine dining restaurant where you can enjoy pristine food that’s always fresh since the menu is entirely dependent on market availability. Their courtyard seating lets you enjoy the excellent taste while taking in the outdoor splendour of the Knowledge Quarter area east of the town centre.

You’ll find 3 different kinds of menus you can opt for here. The tasting menu offers plenty of variety, but it’s not uncommon for some to prefer the excellence and prix fixe menus with the former being appropriate if you’re feeling especially fancy.
