Originally located on the site of the present Land Registry building, there has been a market in Birkenhead since 1835. In 1974 the market was destroyed by a fire, marking the end of an era, but luckily the old clock was saved and restored, taking pride of place in the main entrance at the new market.
Today, Birkenhead Market boasts over 300 indoor and outdoor stalls, including two nationally acclaimed fishmongers and lies in the heart of the town – with the new bus station right outside.
The Market is close to a number of large open car parks and is as diverse and popular as ever. Take a visit and see it for yourself.
