St George’s Hall is a Grade I listed building based in Liverpool City Centre, near to Lime Street Station and Queen Square. It is well known for being one of the finest neo-classical buildings in the world.

Standing at 169ft long and 74ft wide, the hall is the largest of its kind in Europe. The ceiling is supported by massive red granite columns, with figures displaying art, science, fortitude and justice.

The Hall is home to a unique mosaic floor of 30,000 tiles. When this tiled floor was uncovered on the Hall’s centenary in 1954, more than 100,000 people arrived to see it.

The Hall also contains a concert organ with 7,000 pipes, this makes it the second largest after the organ in the Albert Hall.

Key features include:
• The original south entrance hall, designed by Harvey Lonsdale Elmes, on St Johns Lane;
• Visit the cells used by prisoners who were awaiting trial;
• The newly refurbished Criminal Court and Judge’s Robing Room;
• Unique ventilation system designed by Dr David Boswell Reid;
• A new accessible viewing gallery for the Great Hall.
